Samba, Jan 20: Residents of Gurha Slathia of Vijaypur today staged protest demonstration against illegal mining of Devika River, at Vijaypur. A large number of youth, villagers and children participated this protest.
The people of Gurha Slathia said that they have religious faith in river Devika and they will never forgive those who have mined it. People said that they consider the river Devika as a goddess and at some time it used to be a river of milk and it was also known as Dudhadhari Ganga. Among the people performing Pankaj Salathia, Sarat Salathia, KD Singh, Neelam Bar Singh, Bishambar Singh, Shambu, Inderjit Singh, Krishna Singh, Balbir Singh etc. said that Devik is a religious river and mining in it hurts the sentiments of people We appeal to the Bhoomi Vigyan Mining Department and other people to stop mining in a holy river like Devika so that the faith of the people is maintained And in spite of this, if the department does any other mining, the box will not go away. |
