HC grants Govt 6 weeks of reviving Consumer Commission, District Forum | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 29: The J&K High Court has sought ‘further course of action’ on draft rules regarding constitution of State Consumer Commission and District Consumer Forums. As soon as hearing of a Public Interest Litigation started before a division bench of Justices Ali Mohammad Magrey and Dhiraj Singh Thakur, Deputy Advocate General Feroz Ahmad,, submitted that Government of India has framed the draft rules for function and reconstitution of consumer commissions and district forms in J&K. The court sought details of these rules as well as concurrence and granted government six more week to for the purpose. On last date of hearing, Deputy Advocate General had stated that constitution of these commissions was under active consideration and “the only impediment is notification of the rules by the Central Government.” The Commission and the Forums were winded up as Jammu and Kashmir Re-organization Act, 2019 was implemented in J&K on October 31. At least 2,500 cases are said to be pending before the Commission. Earlier, the High Court had directed Secretary Food Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (FCA&PD) and Secretary Law to appear in person if they failed to notify by December 18 re-constitution of J&K Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and District Consumer Forums for disposing of complaints and appeals pending before these panels. The court had directed the officials to finalize the issue and report compliance by submitting notifications on reconstitution of the Commissions and Forums. |
