Srinagar, Jan 30 A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan committed suicide by shooting self at Pahalgam in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, official sources said on Thursday.
They told UNI that a CRPF jawan, identified as Ishwarappa, a resident of Karnataka, was critically injured when he allegedly shot himself with his service rifle at a camp in Pahalgam. 'The injured was immediately taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,' they further said.
It was not immediately clear why he took this extreme step, sources stated adding police has registered a case and initiated investigation to ascertain the circumstances which forced the jawan to commit suicide.
After completing all the legal and medical formalities, arrangements would be made to send the body of the deceased to his native place for last rites, they added.
