DIC Kathua organizes symposium on Drug Addiction

KATHUA, Feb 17: With an aim to educate students about the harmful effects of drugs, District Information Centre, Kathua today organized a symposium on the topic, "Drug Addiction-a social menace", here at Kids Heaven Convent Senior Secondary School Kathua. District Education Planning Officer Kathua Aruna Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. Chairman Sat Pal Sharma, Principal Anuradha Sharma, staff and students were present. As many as, 12 students participated in the symposium and expressed their views on this social evil prevalent among the young generation.
All the speakers voiced the need to educate youth about the need of refraining from the evil habit of drug consumption besides suggesting various remedial measures to discourage addiction of drugs among the people of all ages.
Theme based skits were presented by the students on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Aruna Sharma said the menace of drugs is making youth isolated and week resulting degradation of social values. She said youth should channelize their energies in sports and other co curricular activities to live healthy life.
Mogu of class 7th bagged first position while Hitashi and Taniya were declared as second and third respectively. The winners and participants were also given certificates and mementos. Later, a pledge to say “No to drugs” was also administered to the students.
