St. John's Church lifts 3rd Inter Church Cricket Championship

JAMMU, Feb. 23: St. John's Church Bakshi Nagar Cricket Eleven trounced The Pentecostal Mission Chucrh Cricket Eleven by a huge margin of 128 runs in an easy contest and lifted the 3rd Inter Church Cricket Championship at Alexander Memorial School Cricket Ground, here today.
The championship was been organized by Christian Fellowship Trust Jammu under the supervision of Fr. Kuriakose President Christian Fellowship Trust Jammu Rajesh Gill President Christian Sports Organization Jammu whereas the conduct committee of the championship includes Edwin Khokher, William Mattoo, Johnson Gill, Asif Gill, David Mattoo, Griffan Gill, Sunny Gill, Amit and Mithu.
The main objective of the tournament is to involve the youths of the Christian Community in sports activities so that they may not involve in drugs and its allied things and can live a healthy and happy life. while the slogan of the Championship is "Be Healthy Stay away from Drugs".
Johny William, Retd. IGP was the chief guest in the valedictory function, while Adv. Purnima Sharma Deputy Mayor Jammu, Easter William Principal Alexander School, Fr. Kuriakose President Christian Fellowship Trust Jammu, Ritu Choudhary Corporator, Amit Gupta Corporator were the Guests of honour while Rev. Udhay Singh, Pastor Anthony,Pastor Robin,Pastor Johnson Gill and Rajesh Gill Chief Prosecuting Officer were the Special Guests. The chief guest and the other dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Earlier, in the summit clash, St. John's Church Bakshi Nagar Cricket Eleven won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 263 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 16 overs. Rishu top scored with 154 runs with 24 sixes , while Victor (38) and Christo (21 ) runs contributed to the total. From bowling side Romario was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets while Rahul and Sunny claimed 1 wickets each.
In reply, The Pentecostal Mission Church could not chased the target and bundled out for 135 runs in 15.1 overs thus lost the match by 128 runs . Sunny Mattoo played a good innings of 32 runs, while Denis(18) and Rohan (16) were the other contributor . For St.John's Church, Victor took 3 wickets, Rishu and Ravi claimed 2 wicket each.
Rishu of St. John's Church was adjudged man of the match in the final match, best batsman and Man of the series for his alround performance during the tournament while Romario of the The Pentecostal Church declared Best Bowler. Earlier, Rajesh Gill Former Ranji Player & coordinator of the event presented a detailed report about the week long tournament in which 8 premier teams of the state participated covering around 112 players. He apprised the dignitaries about the objective of the event.
Fr. Kuriakose spoke on the occasion and said that Christian fellowship formed only for the youths of the Christian Community so that the youths of the community be saved from the drugs and its allied things. He further said that Christian fellowship trust is regularly trying to involve youths in sports activities so that they may not involve in drugs. He also that trust is also working for the rehabilitation of the drug addicts in order to save their precious life.
Purnima Sharma Deputy Mayor also spoke on the occasion appreciated the working of the Christian fellowship Trust Jammu and assured the organizers(Christian Fellowship Trust) for all assistance and support for conducting such type of events for the youths of the state in future and for other things for the welfare and encouragement of the Christian youths .
In his address, the Chief Guest Johny William lauded the efforts of the organizers in conducting this mega event of 3rd Inter Church Cricket Championship wherein almost all the Churches Cricket teams of Jammu are participated. The Chief Guest also appreciated the slogan and objective of the Tournament because it is the need of hour in the present scenario to save the young generation from the drug menace which is very dangerous and life threatening. He also complimented the St.John's Church team for their great performance in the tournament and winning the title trophy of the event.
The proceedings of the Valediction function were conducted by Mrs. Nanuta Khokher, whereas Vote of thanks were presented by Edwin Khokher. The officials of the final match were Amit Athwal, Ambroose and Rakul.
