J&K MeT forecasts moderate rain, snow on Feb 28, 29 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 26: Jammu and Kashmir unit of Indian Metrology Department on Wednesday predicted fresh spell of moderate rain and snow on February 28 and 29. Director IMD, J&K, Sonam Lotus said, "expect a spell of light to moderate rain in plains of J&K and moderate snowfall over higher reaches during Feb 28 Evening and 29 Night with main activity in the day on Feb 29." He said that light to moderate snowfall is also expected at some places of Kargil district like Zojila, Dras, Zanskar etc on Feb 29. He said that there is also high probability of occurance of thunderstorm, lightning and hailstorm at scattered places of plains of J&K and on Feb 29, it may led to landslides in Banihal-Ramban axis. Mr Lotus advised farmers to maintain proper sanitation, drainage etc of their plants and animals especially on Feb 29. "This is likely to be the major precipitation this Feb," he said and added, "this year, no major disturbance affected the northern part of India as a result of which, J&K and Ladakh received large Deficient Rain /Snow (-99% to -60%) whereas the state received normal precipitation in December and January 2020."
