SRS hits out Govt of proposed road tax, seeks revocation | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 3: Shri Ram Sena, Jammu and Kashmir Unit, on Wednesday expressed resentment against charging of fixed road/token tax in quarterly, half yearly and yearly/ annual installments, as per the category of the vehicle, accusing the BJP of imposing road tax on people to further loot them amid the ongoing inflation and coronavirus pandemic. Support the ongoing agitation of transporters, SRS State President Rajiv Mahajan sought immediate abolition of the tariff to assure people of hassle-free movement of vehicles. Rajiv Mahajan said the BJP government at the Centre first imposed heavy traffic penalties on the people by amending the Motor Vehicle Act and it is now forcibly charging of fixed road/token tax in quarterly. He said a common man who finds it difficult to arrange two square meals a day will find it difficult to pay so much money just to travel on roads. Mahajan appealed to Lt Governor GC Murmu to take the matter seriously and order immediate revoking the SRO-492 of hike in road tax in the UT.
