Jammu, June 4: A militant was killed in Mehari area of Kalakote town on Thursday evening when security forces established contact with a group of militants. According to Police officials, atleast four militants trapped in Mehari area, when the Army and JKP cordoned off the area, militants opened indiscriminate firing on security forces, in retaliation one militant has been eliminated. “Encounter has started at Mehari area just two kilometers away from Kalakote town, in District Rajouri. JKP and Army are on the job. Further details awaited,” a senior Police officer told Early Times. A police official said the encounter began after forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area following inputs about the presence of militants there. “A militant in the encounter has been killed, and operation is going”, sources said, adding that officially it has not be confirmed yet. “A group of at least four militants reportedly reached Mehari area after infiltrating somewhere in Nowshera sector”, sources said. DyIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, Vivek Gupta who along with the SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli, SHO Kalakote and other Police men told ET that the search operation in the area is going. “It is not appropriate to say anything, Army and the JKP has launched an operation, search is going on. It the search operation is complete, I cant say anything”, the DyIG said. |
