Terrorists killing a Kashmiri Pandit Sarpanch in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has once again exposed the real face of Pakistan sponsored terrorists whose only aim is to create fear by targeting innocents.
The Sarpanch killed by the terrorists had been elected by the people of his area and he used to help them in getting their small jobs done. The coward terrorists shot dead an unarmed man who was working hard to become the voice of the people in his area. But these terrorists have no religion nor have they got any respect for humanity. They only know how to spill innocent blood so that their masters sitting across the Line of Control remain happy. Our heart goes out for the family members of the slain Sarpanch, who became another victim of the Pak sponsored terrorism.
According to the media reports the deceased Sarpanch on many occasions had requested the authorities to provide him and the other Panchayat Representatives living in terrorism hit areas with the security cover but the administration had ostensibly ignored his requests.
Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held amidst fear and threats in 2018. The people who came forward to contest these polls put their lives at stake to ensure that grassroot democracy is strengthened in the strife torn Valley. Despite regional parties, National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staying away from elections large number of people came forward to be a part of the process which was aimed at helping the people at the ground level. It’s unfortunate that these brave hearts have been let down by the government and have not been provided with the adequate security.
Everyone is aware of the fact that Sarpanchs, Panchs and the political workers have been soft targets for the terrorists and till date many of them have been murdered by these blood thirsty ultras. The job of the people at the top doesn’t end with just issuing a statement to condemn the killing they have to go beyond it. The Panchayat Representatives living in terrorism hit areas need to be shifted to secure places. It may not be possible to provide security to everyone but the ones who approach the authorities and express fear about their lives being in danger need to be protected. People at the helm should take appropriate steps so that the nefarious designs of terrorists and their masters are thwarted. Protecting innocents should become a priority.
