Desperate Congress throws COVID norms to wind

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 10: Already in disarray, the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir has once again revealed how little does it care for the people and their precious lives amid the prevalent pandemic which is taking toll and showing its dreadful side with each passing day.
Throwing COVID norms to wind, the Congress party on Wednesday convened a meeting here in which besides the functionaries, party’s JK president also took part. However, what has surprised one and all was the group picture of the Congress functionaries that was widely shared on internet with no sense of guidelines and social distancing norms. The picture has once again, meanwhile revealed how the political parties out of desperation could endanger people’s lives and give damn to societal order and wellbeing.
As far as the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, it is battling rebellion on several fronts. There is already a groupism taking toll within as party functionaries and leaders have severe differences with the working style of one another.
The meeting that seems to have been called out in a jiffy on Wednesday could be part of the pacification process. As per the reports coming to fore, Sonia Gandhi on April 11 telephoned party’s JK President GA Mir, seeking from him the details about the party’s internal situation and measures being taken to strengthen it on the ground.
The party, however, tried to downplay the meet, stating that the discussions only took place about the COVID19 and party’s response to it. The statement said Mir apprised Gandhi about the overall situation in J&K, the spurt in COVID19 cases and difficulties confronting students and others, who are currently stuck in other states due to the lockdown.
Mir also apprised Gandhi about hardships confronting outside labourers in the Valley and Jammu and told her that required appropriate measures for their relief and return to their respective states have not been taken so far by the administration, the statement said.
Mir expressed concern over the pathetic condition of poor class of J&K and told Gandhi that BPL, AAY and PPH classes were in great difficulty since ration and other essentials have not reached them as was claimed by the administration.
Insiders however, reveal that the situation within the JK unit of the party is turning precarious and what Sonia Gandhi did was the job of a fire fighting.
“There are crises looming large in the party and particularly about the leadership within Jammu and Kashmir. There is a difference of opinion between the leaders and disgruntlement is also becoming a major cause of concern,” sources back then had revealed.
