Omar Abdullah criticizes revocation of SRO 202 | Sharm Tumko Magar Nahi Aati! | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 24: While Omar Abdullah as the then Chief Minister was seen as the founder of “anti-youth recruitment laws” for government jobs in Jammu and Kashmir, he is now finding faults even with the historic revocation of SRO 202. After the Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu took historic decision of revoking the anti-youth SRO 202 that was allegedly treating newly appointed as “slaves” in government job, Omar seems to have forgotten what he had done as the Chief Minister. “#SRO202 was a disaster when it was announced by the previous alliance government & I’m amazed it took the administration this long to scrap it. Now scrap it completely & do away with the 2 year probation provision for existing employees,” Omar said in a social media post while taking at dig at the previous Peoples Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janta Party alliance and even on the recent revocation of the same. It’s pertinent to mention that his government in 2011 had introduced five year probation for government job whereas previously it was only for two years. Also his government had kept salary for the first five years as “nothing but peanuts.” The reaction of the anti-people policy was that NC faced embarrassing defeat in the 2014 Parliament elections. After the poll debacle, Omar in May 2014 had initiated a step and decided to scrap the "new recruitment policy" in the state. "I am bringing a proposal to the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet … I'm proposing scrapping new recruitment policy with immediate effect," Omar had said that time. Calling the step a "corrective measure", Omar had said, the decision was based on feedback from people and more such decisions were likely to come soon. According to the policy, which Omar Abdullah had established, the new appointees were given full salary only after completion of five years in the service. “But as of now he (Omar) seems to have forgotten that he was the founder of such draconian norms,” said a political analyst. Despite repeated attempts, Omar Abdullah couldn’t be contacted for comments. |
