Protests amidst pandemic
7/2/2020 11:46:05 PM

Leaders and workers of Bharatiya Janata Party staged an anti-China protest in Jammu without wearing face masks and without maintaining any social distancing. One can understand that there is outrage against China in the entire country and everyone irrespective of their party affiliation is staging a protest in one or other way. The BJP leaders by violating COVID-19 norms are putting their own lives and the lives of party workers at stake. They need to understand that being a ruling party doesn’t mean that its leaders enjoy impunity and can violate all the norms aimed at controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty Indian Army soldiers sacrificing their lives in the line of duty at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh and giving a befitting reply to the aggressors by killing their more than 40 men has sent a clear message to Chinese government that India has changed and is capable of repelling any of their moves.
Since the day the news of Chinese transgression in Ladakh has broken the people in India have started boycotting their products and their applications. The Government of India hit the nail on its head by banning the Chinese internet applications. Entire country is standing behind the Indian Army and has endorsed the decisions of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The recent digital strike by the PM Modi has left China guessing.
No one can snatch the right of protest of the BJP leaders but they should realize that staging demonstrations amidst pandemic without following the COVID-19 protocol can spell doom and can increase the number of cases rapidly. The virus which has originated from China is very deadly and contagious. These leaders look for opportunities to hog the headlines but if they don’t understand the gravity of the situation, they will create problems for everyone.
On the other hand Congress leaders and workers also staged a protest in Jammu against the price of petrol and diesel touching the sky. They also violated the COVID-19 norms and hit the streets. J&K administration should take a note of what’s happening during the COVID times and act against the violators irrespective of their party affiliations. It will act as a deterrent and will set a precedence that whenever politicians think about staging protest they will ensure that they have to follow the COVID-19 protocol. If they are allowed to carry on with their actions, they can become a big source of spreading Coronavirus infection.
