KATHUA, July 3: Embarrassed by the no-confidence motion moved by some party councilors against the president and vice president of Municipal Council Kathua, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today began a damage control exercise “to save the chair” of the incumbent president Naresh Sharma.
The BJP leadership rushed Kathua in-charge of the party Yudhvir Sethi who convened a meeting of all BJP Councilors at the party office here. Former Minister Rajeev Jasrotia and district president Raghunandan Singh also attended the meeting. According to the sources, the BJP councilors, who have moved no-confidence motion against the incumbent president, along with another councilor questioned the working style of MC president Naresh Sharma.
“The councilors targeted him (president) to extend more benefits to non-BJP councilors and even trying to benefit an independent candidate who had recently openly attacked Union Minister in PMO and local Member of Parliament Jitendra Singh in a press conference,” sources said.
The councilors also blamed that despite joining BJP, Naresh Sharma still had been doing development works and sanitization in the areas with strong bastions of Congress supporters. They also alleged that his behaviour was not good and he never took them into confidence while carrying out development works.
Meanwhile, some heated arguments were also witnessed in the meeting when councilor Bupinder Paul was learnt to have said the no-confidence motion moved by them with the due knowledge of former minister and ex-MLA Kathua, Rajeev Jasrotia. However, the situation was defused by the other councilors and BJP leaders.
Sources said the councilors who moved no confidence motion remained adamant of their move, but the incharge directed them to oppose the move as party high command has directed for the same.
The councilors also met with Executive Officer MC Kathua and submitted a copy of no confidence motion against the MC President and vice president, demanding early floor test.
