Mayor JMC visits Channi area, inspects water body

Jammu, July 6: Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Chander Mohan Gupta alongwith Deputy Mayor Advocate Purnima Sharma conducted tour of areas of Channi Himmat and its adjoining localities of ward no.51.
They took stock of the development works being done on the renovation of water body (pond) near Bhalla enclave Channi Himmat adjoining Nursing college of the said ward. Raj Kumar Councilor of ward no.51, Neeraj Puri Councilor of ward no.54 also Gandhi Nagar Mandal President BJP, Mohit Mahajan Executive Engineer, Anil Gupta Assistant Executive Engineer, concerned Junior Engineer of project division of JMC as well prominent inhabitants of the ward were also present there during the tour of Mayor & Deputy Mayor. Mayor told that the Govt of India as well as U.T Govt of J&K is taking keen interest & doing whatever possible to identify, save & renovate our old water bodies (Pond) where ever it exists. Mayor further stated that in the earlier days these water bodies were the main source of drinking water and other household purposes for the Major population of India & it is the prime duty of every citizen to identify & cooperate with the Govt to save these natural resources from anti-social elements & habitual encroachers for the welfare of the society and their future generations. He further said that Jammu Municipal Corporation has already sanctioned Rs 25 lacs for the renovation of water bodies in each ward of the city and if required more amount will be allotted for their further beautification as soon as funds be made available from the government and asked the concerned councillor and project division of JMC, install LED Lights in its vicinity.
He further added that this water body will be charged with the help of rain water harvesting and there will be provision for a tube well in the water body. There will be plantation all around, walking track for the people and provision for cycle track shall also be kept. A provision for play station for children & benches for seating arrangements shall also be kept. In the first phase, the boundary of the water body shall be demarcated with the help of retaining wall & chain link fencing so as to discourage any type encroachments by the miscreants. After its completion, it will become a unique type of water body and set an example for others to follow so that they can also take initiatives for identifying and developing beautiful water bodies in their respective wards.
