Jammu, July 10: President Yuva Rajput Sabah, Surinder Singh Gilli on Friday urged Jammu and Kashmir LG, G C Murmu declare late Maharaja Hari Singh's ji birth anniversary as a public holiday, asserting that it was due to the state's former ruler that it became a part of India. Surinder Singh Gilli was speaking during the press conference, today asked the state government to take a "positive decision" on their demand on holiday on Birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji i.e on September 23, the birth anniversary of last Dogra king, be declared a state holiday. He said that it failed to understand what was stopping the government from taking a decision on long-standing demand of all peoples of jammu, which involves "regional aspirations". "From political parties to civil society and social organizations, everyone wants holiday on September 23 as a mark of respect for the great Maharaja," said Gilli. Gilli said that for many years there had been a strong demand to declare the birthday of Hari Singh as a public holiday. "In fact, former MLC had a resolution to this effect passed in the legislative council and also passed resolution in the house of JMC some years ago, but so far no action has been taken. Apart from that he was a progressive and a far-sighted ruler who instituted many social and economic reforms for the welfare of the people," Gilli said. |
