EArly Times Report

Srinagar, July 20: The holy Silver Mace of Lord Shiva “ Chhari Mubarak” was on Monday taken to historic Shankracharya temple in Srinagar for prayers on the occasion of Haryali Amavasya as per old customs associated with annual pilgrimage to Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
The sounds of conch shell reverberated and charged the whole atmosphere at the temple, also known as the Jyeshteshwara Temple, located on the hill top of Takhat-e-Suliman in the Zabarwan range in Srinagar for puja on the occasion of Haryali Amavasya (Shravan Amavasya).
Custodian of the Chhari Mubarak, Mahant Deependra Giri led a group of sadhus and other devotees took the Chhari Mubarak from Amreshwar temple, Akhara Building in the Budshah Chowk area of the city for Shankaracharya temple today. Pujan was performed chanting Vedic hymn. However, only selected number of Sadhus participated in the prayers due to Covid-19 pandemic following all the protocols set by the State Administration. Pujan lasted for about 90 minutes.
Collective prayers were offered for early end of the pandemic so that people across the Globe can start living their normal and natural life at the earliest. Collective prayers were also offered for peace and prosperity of Jammu & Kashmir.
‘The True Trust’, founded by Mahant Giri in year 2004, shall make all the necessary arrangements like yester years for Sadhus coming from across the country to join Chhari-Mubarak for their food, accommodation and transportation during the pilgrimage.
Chhari-Mubarak shall be taken to ‘Sharika-Bhawani’ Temple, Hari Parvat, Srinagar to pay obeisance to the Goddess tomorrow, July 21, 2020, a spokesman of the Mahant said this afternoon.
However, the annual pilgrimage which was to start in the first week of June was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Though government has announced that there will be no pilgrimage from traditional Pahalgam track, fresh dates for yatra from shortest Baltal route has also not been finalized.
Mahant Giri and other social and religious organizations have already urged people to suspend the pilgrimage this year in view of threat of spread of virus. However, Mahant Giri has asked government to make arrangements for performing all traditional rituals at Pahalgam and other places before final puja on August 3 in the holy cave.
