COVID-19 death toll in JK reaches 273 as 10 more die, 453 new cases reported

SRINAGAR, July 22: The death toll due to the Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 273 as 10 more people died due to the virus in the past 24 hours. In the meantime, 453 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported today.
Reports said that Srinagar, Baramulla and Bandipora districts reported two deaths each while as a death each was reported from Kulgam, Anantnag, Budgam and Ganderbal districts respectively. In the Kashmir valley 253 people have died due to COVID-19 while as in Jammu the number of casualties is 20.
Reports said that Srinagar reported 165 fresh cases of Corona Virus followed by Kulgam 62 cases, Baramulla 58 cases, Rajouri 47 cases, Pulwama 30 cases, Shopian 16 cases, Jammu 14 cases, Kupwara 11 cases, Kathua 10 cases, Udhampur and Reasi eight cases each, Doda six cases, Bandipora five cases, Budgam, Samba and Poonch four cases each and Anantnag one case.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 453 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 101 from Jammu division and 352 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 15,711. Also 10 COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 152 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 37 from Jammu Division and 115 from Kashmir Division. Out of 15,711 positive cases, 6,831 are active positive, 8,607 have recovered and 273 have died; 20 in Jammu division and 253 in Kashmir division. Out of 5, 37,891 test results available, 5, 22,180 samples have tested negative till date.
Additionally, till date 3, 41,263 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 39,981 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 11 in hospital quarantine, 6,831 in hospital isolation and 41,784 under home surveillance. Besides, 2, 52,383 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 3450 positive cases, 2,126 active positive, 1,253 recovered, 71 deaths; Baramulla has 1709 positive cases, 704 active positive, 948 recovered, 57 deaths; Kulgam has 1248 positive cases, 354 active positive, 868 recovered, 26 deaths; Shopian has 1184 positive cases, 361 active positive, 804 recovered, 19 deaths; Anantnag district has 1098 positive cases, 363 active positive, 716 recovered, 19 deaths.
“Kupwara has 976 positive cases, 363 active positive, 598 recovered, 15 deaths; Pulwama has 1072 positive cases, 520 active positive, 538 recovered, 14 deaths; Budgam has 950 positive cases, 430 active positive, 500 recovered, 20 deaths; Bandipora has 483 positive cases, 106 active positive, 370 recovered, seven deaths and Ganderbal has 307 positive cases, 163 active positive, 139 recovered, five deaths,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 665 positive cases, 194 active positive, 459 recovered, 12 deaths; Rajouri has 486 positive cases, 365 active positive, 119 recovered, two deaths; Ramban has 419 positive cases, 177 active positive, 242 recovered; Kathua has 396 positive cases, 119 active positive, 276 recovered, one death; Udhampur has 375 positive cases, 75 active positive, 299 recovered, one death.
“Samba has 344 positive cases, 167 active positive, 176 recovered, one death; Doda has 206 positive cases, 107 active positive, 97 recovered, two deaths; Poonch has 159 positive cases, 27 active positive, 131 recovered, one death; Reasi has 94 positive cases, 49 active positive, 45 recovered and Kishtwar has 90 positive cases, 61 active positive, 29 recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 15,711 positive cases in J&K, 3,605 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
