SAMIKSHA holds webinar on urban agriculture | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 28: Innovative and citizen friendly technologies are being increasingly used in promoting cultivation of vegetables and other food plants in urban areas which is fast emerging, across the globe, as a critical factor in facilitating sustainability of modern cities and providing a healthy environment to their inhabitants. This was disclosed by Ajay Khajuria President of Samiksha: The Society for Promotion of Inclusive and Sustainable Development, in his special remarks while initiating a webinar on the topic Urban Agriculture: A key for Sustainability and Healthy Living in Future Cities. He stated that the objective of the webinar was to facilitate maximum possible outreach and quality interaction amongst the participants for generating awareness amongst stakeholders particularly in urban areas. In his detailed presentation Dr. Rama Kant Sharma, Dy. Director, State Agriculture Management and Training Institute (SAMETI) Jammu, who was the keynote speaker, focussed upon the various aspects of ‘Technology driven Agriculture’ which was driving the concept of urban agriculture in India and elsewhere. He gave a detailed overview of urban agriculture including Multidimensional Production systems for urban areas, different types of gardening for households and commercial spaces, solid waste and waste water management and low cost hydroponic fodder production techniques. |
