Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 29: Rain continued to elude despite weather warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for Wednesday and Thursday in the Kashmir valley, where cloudy sky throughout the day could not bring any relief as the mercury was above normal.
However, strong winds in the evening after humid weather provide slight relief to shoppers who were out for Eid shopping today, when business and other activities resumed after remaining shut since July 20 when administration imposed fresh lock down after spike in COVID-19 cases.
A Met department spokesman said this evening that weather warning for isolated heavy rain, thundershowers and lightening in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region will continue for the second day on Thursday. The warning will end on July 31st, he said.
He said scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers could occur in Jammu and Kashmir divisions and isolated rain in Ladakh region. There could be scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rains and thundershowers during the subsequent two days.
He said the mercury was above normal with Mirpur in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) recording 39.5 degree maximum temperature today, highest in the region followed by Gilgit (POK) 37.5 degree and Muzaffarabad, capital of POK 36.6 degree.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir recorded 26.2 degree maximum temperature today which was half a notch above normal. However, he said, maximum temperature of famed ski resort of Gulmarg was not available while the minimum temperature there was 13.5 degree which was one degree above normal.
The summer capital, Srinagar, where main business hubs witnessed heavy rush of Eid shoppers, the maximum temperature was 32.1 degree which was 2.6 degree above normal.
He said the sky would be partly cloudy to light rain and thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 28 and 18 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar.
