Rain still eludes Kashmir, fresh weather warning issued by Met | | | EArly Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 6: A fresh weather warning has been issued on Thursday evening for isolated rain, thundershowers and 30 km to 40 km gusty winds during the next 72 hours in the Kashmir valley, where earlier such warnings could not bring any relief due to deficit rainfall. People continued to face hot and humid weather in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, where intermittent power failure added to their sufferings. However, in majority areas people alleged shortage of drinking water while farmers could be seen watering their orchards and vegetable fields with the help of water motors. A Met department spokesman this evening warned there could be isolated rain, thundershowers, lightening and 30 km to 40 km gusty winds the Kashmir valley and Jammu division during the next 72 hours till August 9. There is no such warning for Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh, he said. However, earlier warning issued by the Meteorological department from time to time went wrong as there was hardly any rain and mercury remained above normal. He said Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) despite having 19 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours till 0830 hrs, recorded 39 degree maximum temperature, highest in the region. Gilgit, also in POK was second hottest at 34 degree maximum temperature while the minimum temperature there was 19.5 degree. In the Kashmir valley Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded 33.1 degree maximum temperature, highest on ths side of the Line of Control (LoC) followed by 32.6 degree each at Srinagar and Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Srinagar had received deficit rainfall since June this year. Mainly clear to generally cloudy sky is predicted in Srinagar, where the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 32 degree and 18 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. Pahalgam, a famed health resort in south Kashmir was four degree hottest than world famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north. The maximum temperature at Pahalgam and Gulmarg on Thursday was 28.5 degree and 24 degree respectively.
