EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Aug 7: Government Higher Secondary School Damnote in Tehsil Mongri near here is functioning in a damaged building for the last 15 years.
The building is damaged to such an extent that any unfortunate incident can happen anytime.
Locals informed that they tried hard and visited offices of the concerned authorities many times but nothing fruitful emerged out of their efforts.
Sources informed that there are approximately 450 students enrolled in the school which is functioning for the last 15 years in a dilapidated and extensively damaged building.
It was in the year 2005 that this school was upgraded from High School to Higher Secondary on the demand of the locals but the educational institution still awaits a good building.
One month ago strong winds and heavy rains blew away the sheds of the school after which walls and other infrastructure also got damaged by the vagaries of harsh weather of the area.
Locals also said that there were eight rooms in the building which used to cater the needs of Higher Secondary School but three of these rooms are fully damaged now, adding that on reopening the institution will have to function from the remaining five rooms which too are not in good condition.
Local Sarpanch Hans Raj said that he also brought the problem into the notice of the principal of the school but nothing has been done so far in this regard.
The school even lacks toilet facility due to which the students especially the face problems.
Locals appealed to the government to sanction construction of new rooms for the school and repair the damaged building including toilet block before reopening of the institution which is closed due to Covid -19 pandemic.
When contacted the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Udhampur, Parshotam Dutt said that construction of five rooms has been sanctioned by the government for the school.
He further said that on reopening of the schools, the education department will do everything possible to make the school function in a smooth manner.
“We may erect tents or do anything but we will not make the students suffer,” he maintained.
