Social distancing norms, advisories go for a toss during retirement ceremony of ZEO Satwari
Amid increasing COVID-19 infections
8/9/2020 11:28:37 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 9: On one hand the COVID-19 infections and number of mortalities have been increasing with each passing day but even the government officials have not been taking it seriously and found violating the social distancing norms as well as other health guidelines during the retirement ceremony of Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Satwari.
According to the photographs circulated on the social networking sites, a retirement ceremony was reportedly organized in the office of ZEO Satwari in which all the health advisories as well as social distancing norms were openly flouted by none other than the teaching faculty as well as clerical staff.
As per the photographs circulated, the outgoing ZEO Satwari was seen being garlanded by the colleagues and was presented gifts but during the entire ceremony, social distancing norms as well as health advisories were not obeyed. Those attending the function could be seen standing shoulder to shoulder while none of them had wearing the face-masks. In one photograph, two employees could be seen wearing the facemask but standing very close to each other and others had not covered their faces.
Interestingly, in one photograph, the female employees could be seen standing in a line- a photo shot style in vogue among girls-to have their photograph clicked. Once again there were no face masks, which would ultimately spoil the frame of the photograph.
“If officials of School education department, who are considered literate section of the society, behave in such a manner and violating all the norms, then what can be expected from the common man?”, an official said, adding that already the Satwari as well as nearby Gadigarh area came under containment zones and despite these facts, the teaching faculty as well as clerical staff flouted the health advisories.
“The onus of all these violations squarely lies on the staff members, who had organized the farewell for outgoing official. These staff members are still employees of Education department and action should be initiated against them who had organized the function but didn’t follow the guidelines”, an official said.
Time and again government has been emphasizing on the masses to obey health advisories as well as SOPs through various communication channels but carelessness of such type of people, have been proving detrimental in the fight against the novel corona virus. Government should take strict action against the violators so that none dare to violate the health advisories, an official said.
