NC caught in quandary
8/21/2020 11:56:54 PM
The J&K administration allowing National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah to meet four senior party leaders at his Gupkar residence in Srinagar has left the grand old party in Kashmir with no other option but to restart the political activities, which have been on halt in the Valley for the past more than a year.
Recently the administration had informed the court that none of the NC leaders are under detention and they are free to go anywhere. To test the waters the NC president called the meeting of senior leaders.
Apparently it looked like an attempt to corner the government as the NC leaders were expecting that they won’t be allowed to leave their residences, but to their utter surprise no one stopped them.
Since the day NC leaders have been released they have tried sending a message that they are under house arrest and they are not being allowed to carry on with their political activities. But their claims stand punctured.
The NC leadership stands exposed after August 5, 2019, when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided the erstwhile State into two Union Territories. Despite top party leaders being detained, not a single person came out on streets to seek their release.
The notion which these leaders had created that they only can run J&K affairs was also dispelled. Moreover, all their slogans and the narratives which they had built during the past 70-years were thrown to winds. They have been left with nothing to sell as the Centre’s August 5 decision has driven home a point that Kashmir centric leaders were only bothered about the power and the status they enjoyed. They never wanted to do anything for the people.
The Kashmir centric leaders should realize that they can no longer raise the slogan of Azadi and Pakistan as entire world has acknowledged the fact that J&K is an integral part of India and people challenging India’s integrity are outlaws.
The NC leaders seem confused. They have no clue about how to restart their political activities. They are finding it hard to tell the people that their slogans were a hoax and they never meant what they preached.
Till yesterday they were telling the people that they are not being allowed to meet and chalk out their political strategy. But today they have no excuse as the government has allowed them to do whatever they want. NC leaders are in a quandary and don’t know how to react to the situation.
