Slogans find no takers
8/29/2020 12:21:22 AM
The slogan of Kashmir centric parties that they would get everything back i.e. pre-August 5, 2019 position is not finding any takers.
A few days ago National Conference President and former J&K chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah chaired an all party meeting in Srinagar. After the meeting a joint statement was issued stating that the Kashmir centric parties which participated in the meeting standby by the Gupkar Declaration which was issued just one day before the Centre announced its decision to divide J&K into two union territories and scrapped its special status.
It appears that the Kashmir centric parties had announced their decision with a hope that people will come out in their support and they would get an overwhelming response. But nothing of that sort happened. In fact there was no reaction from the people. After claiming that Kashmir centric politicians will fight to get everything back these leaders have gone silent as it appears that no one wants to buy their hollow slogan. For the past seventy years they misled the people by raising false slogans and by coming up with insignificant roadmaps. After August 5, 2019, people of Kashmir to an extent have understood that the dreams and illusions that were sold by these leaders were nothing but a farce and they did everything for the sake of power.
It’s high time for Kashmir centric parties to muster courage and tell truth to people that even if they come into power they can address the issues related to governance, and they won’t have any say in big decisions. Once again these leaders are out to hoodwink the people. By raising the Article 370 bogey they are once again raising the false hopes. More than anything it looks like a ploy to once again create confusion in the minds of people. For the past 70-years they sold them one narrative and now they want to sell another discourse.
People also know it very well that the Gupkar Declaration is nothing but another lie through which these parties want to make a comeback. These leaders should think logically. Is it possible to get Articles 35A and 370 back? All of them know the answer. They are aware about the fact that J&K has been merged into the union of India fully and people across the country have supported the Government of India’s decision to abrogate J&K’s special status. These leaders should stop telling blatant lies just for the sake of remaining relevant. If they are uncomfortable with the changes that have been made they can retire from the politics and do something else.
