Tainted’ doctor lobbies for extension in Govt services
Senior doctors seek Raj Bhawan intervention
8/30/2020 1:35:55 AM
ET Report

Jammu, Aug 29: Accused of numerous scams including appointment of his own spouse “fraudulently”, an allegedly tainted doctor, who heads a government run hospital in Bemina locality of Srinagar is lobbying for extension of his services.
Sources said the medico is scheduled to retire in the coming months but that he is lobbying for his extension and has started doing the rounds of corridors of power including some former ministers and politicians.
Sources said the doctor has been telling the government that only he could run the hospital and that if he is allowed to retire, “the system will collapse.”
It is pertinent to mention that the doctor has already been under scanner for having unlawfully appointed his wife for a senior post at the same hospital which he heads.
Besides he is accused of having elevated a Russian doctor having police cases registered against him at a key post in decision making. The said Russian doctor was a favorite of the PDP led government.
In yet another shocking incident, the head of this hospital in Srinagar has also been accused of having procured fake PPEs worth millions during Covid19 pandemic without tendering.
While the doctors had protested against such incidents, one of them was sacked from the job.
The senior doctors on the other hand had a serious confrontation with the head of the hospital over his allegedly controversial style of working and corruption in making Covid deals worth millions.
Finally, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir intervened and had ordered an inquiry to pacify the protesting doctors. The result of the inquiry is not known yet.
When contacted a senior official didn’t rule out extension of the services of the said doctor given “his influence.”
Meanwhile the senior doctors at the hospital in Bemina said they have decided to send a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha seeking a fair trial into wrongdoings at the hospital.
They appealed the LG to personally to personally look into the matter.
