Srinagar, Sept 1: The National Highway, the only road connecting Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir valley was through for traffic though movement of vehicles were being regulated as per situation, official sources said on Tuesday. They said vehicles, mostly trucks loaded with essentials and oil tankers, were allowed to move towards Ladakh this morning. Private vehicles and those carrying passengers, having valid travel permit issued by Divisional Commissioner have also been allowed to move. Normally vehicles, particularly empty trucks and oil tankers, from different parts of the Ladakh were being allowed in the morning everyday and later traffic from Srinagar in the afternoon, they further said adding today vehicles were allowed from Srinagar to Ladakh. Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) were allowed to move towards Ladakh. However, trucks were stopped at Sonamarg, they stated adding now trucks have also been allowed to move towards other side of the Zojila pass. Decision to allow traffic from Ladakh towards Kashmir would be taken later, they said. Sources said on Monday, all Ladakh bound vehicles, including trucks loaded with essentials and oil tankers, were stopped at Sumbal bridge and Wusun and Sonamarg leading to chaos and confusion for several hours. Later, after proper registration of driver and conductors Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) were allowed to move towards Ladakh. Passenger traffic is banned on the highway due to COVID-19 pandemic since March this year. However, only vehicles carrying medical emergency cases are allowed. |
