Joining mainstream only way forward | | | The Peoples Democratic Party, which had emerged as an alternative, for National Conference in Kashmir, is at the verge of getting wiped out from the political arena in the Valley. In absence of senior leaders, a few activists, who claim to be the youth leaders, are making attempts to make their presence felt on the ground by holding symbolic protests for no reasons. They are demanding release of political leaders, without realizing that no leader, except the former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, are under detention while others have been released. The downfall of the PDP had started soon after the BJP pulled out from the coalition government led by it in the erstwhile J&K State in 2018. Since that day the PDP has fallen like a pack of cards. The debacle of the party started on the very day when the government fell as the leaders, who were the pillars of the party, started moving out. Within a few days the rebels declared the PDP as a “Family Party” and blamed the kith and kin of the former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for ruining the party. They claimed that they were sidelined by the party president and her family members. After Mehbooba realized that her party is falling apart she threatened that if any attempt is made to break her party more Yasin Maliks and Salahuddins will be born and 1990 will get repeated. Her seditious utterances shocked the nationalist people across the country and led to a sedition case being filed against her. As on date all the top leaders have said goodbye to the green party in Kashmir and Mehbooba Mufti has been left alone. She is paying a heavy price for her separatist leanings and ideology. Today she stands at a crossroads. Neither Pakistan, nor the separatists, whose cause she espoused despite enjoying all the perks and privileges provided by the Government of India, have come for her rescue. People of Kashmir haven’t even staged a single protest to seek her release. Nor have they shown any inclination towards her politics since August 5, 2019, when the Centre abrogated J&K’s special status and divided it into two union territories. The handful of activists who are claiming to be leaders are making a mockery of themselves by coming out on streets and getting their pictures clicked. Instead of wasting their time they should acknowledge the fact that anti-nationals and their activities won’t be tolerated and joining the mainstream is the only way forward. |
