Alert CRPF personnel avert tragedy, defuse IED in north Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 7: Alert Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a Powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on Sopore-Kupwara road in north Kashmir, a Defence Ministry spokesman said. He said a Road Opening Party (ROP) of CRPF noticed a tin beneath a culvert at Nutnussa on Sopore-Kupwara road. Traffic from both sides on the busy road was halted and the area was cordoned off, he said. The IED was fitted in a five litre tin filled with explosive material and an electric bulb and wire. Later, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED was defused without causing any damage. Had it not been detected and defused in time, it would have caused much damage to life and property as the road remains busy throughout the day, he said.
