AJKPC welcomes govt’s announcement of Rs 10 lakh for each Panchayat | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 10: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) has welcomed the decision of Union Territory administration for sanction of Rs 10 lakh for each Panchayat under Back to Village (B2V) program that is scheduled to begin from October 2. Anil Sharma, the president of the organization today while addressing a gathering of large number of Panchayat members in Akhnoor said sanction of funds for B2V Program is a positive response by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to make B2V program a meaningful and development oriented exercise unlike in the past two B2V programs that were nothing but merely a PR exercise and TA/DA earning program for the officers who visited the villages and Panchayats. The AJKPC leader, in his address, also said that though their organization had urged the government for allocation of minimum Rs 25 lakh for each Panchayat (under earlier B2V programmes) so that development of all wards in a Panchayat is taken care of but anyhow to begin with, the amount of Rs 10 lakh is also a welcome initiative. In his interaction, he informed that there are over 4,000 Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir therefore this amount if utilized properly would make tangible development in villages of the J&K UT. Sharma along with all PRI members present in the meeting further requested the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam to ensure that all senior officers reach every Panchayat uniformly. They also appealed to the government to allocate additional funds for each Panchayat for providing refreshment and food to Gram Sabha members and visiting senior bureaucrats, officers/officials accompanying him and media persons during the B2V program.
