Security heightened across Jammu as Pakistan uses tunnels after drones
9/15/2020 12:40:14 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 14: While Jammu continues to uphold the nationalist sentiment with pride, the frustrated neighboring enemy Pakistan has been trying hard to target the winter capital region through all its sinister designs, prompting the government to further beef up the security apparatus in the entire province.
Highly placed sources said a new three-tier security grid was being put in place, in the winter capital in particular, to prevent any apprehended terror action.
Sources said the decision was taken after New Delhi called a high level meeting to discuss the matter.
Whereas a few months ago, Pakistan used drone to infiltrate arms and ammunition into Jammu, in the latest a tunnel was spotted near the International Border.
Sources said the twin incidents, within two months prompted New Delhi to call the high level meeting over the security apparatus in Jammu especially in the winter capital where Durbar Move offices will reopen fully after two months.
Sources said the whereas security in the border regions has been beefed up, elsewhere the domination of cops in civvies was being intensified especially in the City of Temples.
Sources said night patrol has been heightened adding that the government may put restrictions on "some sort of civilian movement" in the late hours.
The security grid was being revamped after the Border Security Force (BSF) on August 30 detected a trans-border tunnel originating from Pakistan to push in infiltrators across Jammu & Kashmir's Samba sector. The detection has prompted the BSF to launch a major operation to check whether there were more such tunnels.
The BSF said the approximately 20 feet long and three-four feet wide tunnel was detected inside the Indian territory near the International Border at Samba's Basantar area.
Earlier in June, a Pakistani drone carrying arms and explosives was shot down by the BSF along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district.
The drone loaded with a sophisticated rifle and some grenades was shot down when the BSP patrol spotted it hovering near Rathua village in Hira Nagar sector was addressed to some "Ali Bhai", which the security forces believe could be the name of some foreign terrorist "hiding somewhere" in J&K.
When contacted a senior official said the government was fully prepared to foil any nefarious designs of Pakistan or its sponsored terrorists.
