Jammu, Sept 20: Central University of Jammu organised International Webinar on the theme “Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s Thought in Contemporary Times” on 20th September 2020. The event has been organised to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The theme of the webinar has given an opportunity to remind now the efficacy of the message of Mahatma Gandhi. The webinar was chaired by Prof. Ashok Aima, Honourable Vice –Chancellor, Central University of Jammu. The two eminent speakers of the event were Dr. Ayako Uno from International Christian University, Institute of Asian Cultural Studies, Japan; and Prof. Flavia Stara from University of the Macerata , Italy.
Dr. Ayako Uno spoke on the Gandhian thoughts as “The light in Darkness with reference to Japan”. She elaborated on the various facets of Gandhi ji personality which have paved the way for collective motivation to strive for the collective cause and achievement.
Prof. Flavia Stara expressed the image of Mahatma Gandhi as perceived in Europe - eminent personality, a symbol of non-violence, an inspiration. She shared that the popular perception about Mahatma Gandhi is as someone who was in forefront in the Indian Independence struggle.
The chair of the session, Prof. Ashok Aima,Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Jammu expressed his views on Mahatma Gandhi thoughts as Way of Life. He opined that if the Gandhian thoughts go in the attitude of a person only then it is in real sense imbibing of Gandhian spirituality.
The event has been moderated by the convener of the event Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, Centre for Comparative Religions and Civilization and Assistant Dean, Students’ Welfare , Central University of Jammu. Dr. Ajay has briefly explained the background of the theme with the examples of Vedic and Upanishadic Mantras .formal welcome address and vote of thanks was rendered by the co-convener of the event Dr. Bharti Gupta, assistant professor, Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Central University of Jammu. Prof. Rasal Singh, Dean of Students’ welfare & Dean School of Languages was also present in the event.
