After chilly conditions, weather turns pleasant in Kashmir
9/27/2020 11:52:41 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Sept 27: After experiencing chilly conditions on Saturday due to overcast conditions and season's first snowfall in upper reaches, weather turned pleasant on Sunday after bright sunshine greeted people in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, fruits and other crops were damaged in the orchids in central Kashmir district of Budgam due to high speeding winds on Saturday evening.
A Met department spokesperson told said that light rain and thundershowers are expected to occur at isolated places in the valley during the next 12 hours. However, he said weather will turn dry from Monday onwards, resulting in further improvement in the maximum temperature.
Bright sunshine on Sunday greeted world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the Affarwat and Sunshine peaks received season's first snowfall on Saturday. The maximum and minimum temperature in the ski resort, which is about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, was several degrees below normal on Saturday. Gulmarg, which is world renounced winter destination, remained deserted since March this year as national and international tourists have stayed away in view of COVID-19 pandemic. But, due to ease in the lockdown, local tourists in smaller number could be seen visiting the ski resort, particularly on weekends.
After witnessing chilly weather conditions due to overcast conditions on Saturday, sun came out from behind the clouds in the summer capital, Srinagar this morning. The weather remained pleasant throughout the day in the city, where the maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was below normal. Weather also turned pleasant due to sunshine in other parts of the valley, including world famous health resort of Pahalgam, Qazigund, gateway to the valley and Kupwara in north Kashmir.
