Credibility Crisis

BJP in Leh refusing to take help from Jammu based leaders has put a big question mark on the credibility of the stalwarts of the party.
Elections for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) have already been announced and the BJP has released the list of its candidates. The campaigning in the newly craved out Union Territory of Leh has already commenced. Local leaders are trying to lure the voters on their own and seem least interested in inviting the leaders from J&K to help them out. People in Ladakh had observed a shutdown last month after a senior BJP leader termed their demand to extend Sixth Schedule of Constitution for Ladakh as “nonsense.” Later the BJP leader had claimed that his statement was “twisted” but by the time he retracted from his statement the damage had already been done.
The Sixth Schedule of the Constitution makes separate arrangements for tribal areas. Fearing settlements by outsiders in Ladakh after the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A on August 5 last year, people in the region are seeking tribal status to preserve the existing demography of the region. The People’s Movement for Sixth Schedule for Ladakh was formed to press for this demand and after the utterances of the leader they had threatened to boycott the LAHDC elections. BJP leaders in Ladakh seem to believe that J&K leaders joining the campaign could prove detrimental for them as resentment is brewing against them in the region. The BJP leaders from Jammu should stop worrying about the LAHDC polls and focus on their own constituency.
They are aware of the fact that people in Jammu region are unhappy with them as they have not been able to fulfill the promises they had made. If they really want to make a comeback in the assembly elections in the Union Territory then they have change their attitude towards the people. The BJP leaders maintaining silence over the issues being confronted by the people in Jammu has left their supporters disillusioned. They have been mocking at them for failing to convince their own government in the Centre to restore 4G internet service in the Jammu region. The BJP leaders couldn’t even prevail upon the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to waive off the toll tax at the newly setup toll plazas in Jammu and adjoining districts. The crux is that the Jammu based leaders haven’t be able to do anything for the people who went out of way to support them. How can they be of any help to the people in Ladakh?
