JAMMU, Oct 3: Condemning barbaric gang rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and social activist Gurmeet Singh demanded justicefor the victim and her family. Singh said that it must not be forgotten that this is a rape of a Dalit girl, and that there were multiple crimes including rape, murder and then destruction of evidence. He questioned that why the victim’s family not allowed to perform last rites? UP administration should explain what the reason was in cremating the body in the night that too without the permission of the family and why the body was burnt with petrol. They have no right to do that. Singh said that there was a reign of terror against the family, police have surrounded the village, he added. Leaders of different parties and media are barred from entering the village, and the family is being threatened by the administration. He said it is the matter of shame that violence against women is increasing day by day in Uttar Pradesh, adding that there should be an inquiry against the negligence of the administration. He said strictest punishment should be given to the culprits. |
