Factionalism in Cong: Azad’s loyalists ‘boycott’ Kissan Sammelan; seek time from Rajni Patil
10/11/2020 12:24:35 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 10: As expected most of the loyalists of leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad today boycotted the much publicized ‘Kissan Sammelan’ organized by the J&K Congress in connection with maiden visit of Rajni Patil after her appointment as AICC incharge J&K.
As Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir and his supporters were already working to ensure participations of only their faction in the function, most of the senior leaders, who owe their allegiance with Azad, preferred to stay away from the event.
“There is no fun of attending the function because Mir’s loyalists have made it point to discourge those who considered Azad as their leader”, one Azad loyalist said on the condition of anonymity and revealed that they would devise strategy for future course of action. He said only leaders of a particular faction were invited in the event just to give an impression that this faction has controlled over the organization.
Sources said that after boycotting the function, some of Azad loyalists have sought time to meet Rajni Patil but Mir’s loyalists have opposed this move.
On the condition of the anonymity, a Mir loyalist told Early Times that they have been opposing BJP’s government anti-people policies on the streets braving oppressive means of the authorities. “Instead of agitating on the roads Azad loyalists only issuing press statements from comfort zones and now they are seeking time to meet Rajni Patil”, he said but made it clear that they (Mir loyalists) would any move to give importance to such leaders.
As reported earlier, Ghulam Nabi Azad has already asked his loyalists in J&K to ‘have patience’ and wait for some time before taking any major decision.
Loyalists of Azad in J&K have started showing their anger against treatment being given to their ‘mentor’, Azad, on the other hand, appears to be not ‘in a hurry’.
Credible sources said that instead of asking his loyalists to raise a banner of revolt against J&K Congress chief G A Mir, Azad has decided to wait for an appropriate time to flex his muscles.
Azad loyalists are confident that Congress without Azad in J&K would be a non-existing force and the party leadership is very much aware of it so party high command would not take confronting with him as far as J&K is concerned.
