EARLY TIMES REPORT

BARAMULLA, Oct 17: Scores of people including women of Dangerpora held massive protests as there is water scarcity in the area from the past couple of weeks.
People from three localities of Dangerpora including Maidanpora, Beighpora and Batpora hit roads and staged massive protests against water scarcity in the area, said sources.
According to the sources, the protesting residents have been without drinking water for the past couple of months and the concerned department is watching as a mute spectator.
Irony of the fact is that the water supply pipe line passes through our areas and despite that we are without drinking water, said Bashir Ahmad of Dangerpora.
He alleged that they are facing grave hardships due to shortage of drinking water and are forced to drink contaminated water of river Jhelum and other nearby streams that are passing from Sopore town.
The tall claims of the government falls flat, nothing concrete is being done to solve these basic problems, an unfortunate part is that the women of our area are being compelled to walk 4-5 kilometers every day to fetch water from a canal here, said another local resident of Batpora.
He told Early Times that, government has been promising us to provide drinking water to our village from a long time now, the Public Health Engineering (Jal Shakti) department is watching all these things on daily basis as mute spectators, we were assured that water supply will be restored but nothing has been done so far.
Due to shortage of drinking water there are chances of outbreak of various dreadful diseases, and for that government will be held responsible, locals informed.
They said that one fails to understand how other areas get drinking water round the clock but we face acute water shortage.
Despite repeated pleas to the concerned officials, nothing changed on the ground.
