EARLY TIMES REPORT

MENDHAR, Oct 21: The only road link from Dharna to Malikpur in Mendhar area in Poonch district is in a dilapidated condition for last over a decade. The road which is 12 kilometres long passes through at least dozens of villages but the condition of this link has deteriorated over the years, however, the concerned authorities so far remained indifferent towards its restoration. Aggrieved locals said that the administration has not been taking their grievances seriously. “The authorities have been turning a blind eye towards their plight and have not been taking any developmental works in the area,” Sarpanch Choudhary Mir Mohammed said.
The residents said that time and again they have been bringing the issue in the notice of the higher-ups but to no avail. “The road is in dilapidated condition. There are potholes everywhere, thus making it difficult to commute. A lot of time gets consumed due to bad condition of the road but the locals have no other choice as it is the only link to reach different destinations,” said social worker Imtiaz Ahmed “Earlier the work was started, but then all of a sudden in 2020 the work was stopped due to the non-availability funds,” another youth said.
Irritated by the potholes that make commuting difficult on the road, the residents of village Malikpur collected the money from the locals as well as the sumo drivers plying on the road and started filling the potholes on their own. “The Government did not bother to even fill up the potholes with the result the residents of the area were compelled to collect money for the works,” the youth of the area said.
The residents said that people have to undergo a lot in case of any health emergency. “In the maternity cases, the people suffer a lot,” they said.
“The narrow width of the road is also giving tough time to the residents as well as to those who happen to travel on the road. In 2002 the R&B started the road from Dharana to malikpur but due to unknown reason they left work in midway,” thy added. The road not only connects a huge population of one side with the other, but it also provide connectivity with Mendhar.
