Peoples Alliance to seek release of ‘bete noire’ Er Rashid
Raat Gayee Baat Gayee!

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 25: The so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, a conglomerate of six political parties for restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir are all set to seek release of their alleged bete noire, Engineer Rashid.
Sources said the Peoples Alliance or PA would call a meeting soon to resolve that Rashid be released at an earliest.
Sources said the PA is “under pressure from some quarters” for demanding release of Engineer Rashid in particular and making him be part and parcel of the so called alliance. Sources said while most of the stakeholders have agreed, the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party will hold the key to the decision as they are yet to take a final call.
It is pertinent to mention that Engineer Rashid, who heads the Jammu and Kashmir Awami Etihaad Party, and represented Langate constituency in the Assembly, had been criticizing the PDP and the NC during their respective regimes. Sources said both the parties would consult their leaders on the issue.
Sources said the issue about release of Engineer Rashid would be decided at the next joint meeting of the Gupkar alliance likely to be held at the residence of NC Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah.
“Now, however, they all are coming under one umbrella,” said a source close to the Gupkar Alliance.
Sources said the alliance would seek release of all such political persons who were detained in the wake of the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 while particular mention of Er Rashid would be made.
Sources said the Peoples Alliance looks ahead to revive their respective political activities through “politics over Gupkar Declaration.”
“He (Engineer Rashid) can prove a big support to this and thus demand for his release is getting inevitable,” said a source privy to the Gupkar group.
