What happened to Omar's bungalow vacation claim? | Former J&K CM turns mute over leaving official accommodation | | Early Times Report jammu, Nov 7: Around two months have passed since the day National Conference vice-president and former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said that he would be vacating his Gupkar residence. However, it seems that Omar has forgotten what he had claimed. Junior Abdullah on September 9 this year said he would be vacating his government accommodation in Srinagar. He was responding to the media reports that claimed that Jammu and Kashmir administration has sent notice to Omar to vacate his government bungalow. Omar wrote a letter to the J&K administration and sought eight to 10 weeks' time for finding a suitable accommodation. He had shared the letter on social media and clarified that he is doing so on his own. " I will be vacating my government accommodation in Srinagar before the end of October. The point to note is that contrary to stories planted in the media last year I received no notice to vacate & have chosen to do so of my own accord," he had tweeted. Omar had also said that he has never held on to any government property that he was not entitled to and "I have no intention to start now," he had said. "Consequent upon the change in entitlements for former CMs of J&K some months ago, I now find myself in unauthorized occupation of this accommodation as no attempt has been made to regularise the allotment to me on security or any other grounds. This is a situation that is unacceptable to me," he added. Omar was provided the government accommodation 18 years ago when he was a Lok Sabha member in 2002. He had in his letter informed the administrative secretary that after 2002 he was provided the accommodation as chief minister of the erstwhile J&K State from 2009 to 2015. Now, when more than two months have passed since Omar announced that he would be vacating his official bungalow, there is till date no development seen on this. "At that time, it seems Omar wanted to hog the headlines as he was already in quandary over his erratic views on statehood restoration and Article 370. Now when NC seems to have grabbed the headlines again and is in the limelight, the issue of bungalow vacation seems to have been put under the carpet by none other than Omar himself," said a senior journo from Kashmir. However, a National Conference functionary said that Omar is already overburdened with party activities and has no time investing into the issues pertaining to the functioning of the Estates Department. "We have other priorities in hand. Why would we want to get entangled with such issues of least importance," the NC leader added. |
