Unnerved, ‘ousted Mayor’ to join new party soon | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 20: Unnerved by the plans of the so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration to support a new face as the Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, one “ousted Mayor” is planning to join a new party soon. Sources said the “ousted Mayor” was already in touch with two parties, including one regional and a national party, but that he had sought time from both of them to decide about his plans to join either of them. However, in the wake of the PAGD having decided to support a National Conference leader as the new Mayor, the ousted one is apprehensive of his future unless he joins a political party. Sources said the “ousted Mayor” has been holding meetings with his aides in Kashmir and has told them that his future would be bleak unless he joins a political party in the coming days. Sources said the “ousted Mayor” is finalizing some “terms and conditions” before joining the party. Sources said the said leader has approached the President of regional party to convey his willingness to join them soon. It was reliably learnt that he wants the political party to choose him as their leader for the post of Mayor of Srinagar. It is pertinent to mention that the said person has not been enjoying good relations with the NC leader and thus wants to keep him away from the chair in SMC. It is pertinent to mention that the chair of SMC Mayor is lying vacant whereas the councilors from NC, PDP and Congress are likely to throw weight behind the candidate who has the backing of the Abdullahs. Sources said even the Peoples Conference led by Sajjad Lone would vote for the NC leader in the SMC. Despite repeated attempts, the “ousted Mayor” was not available for comments. |
