Feminine face of women exploitation
11/25/2020 11:16:49 PM

Sunaina Malik

Relations are the building blocks of a magnificent building to which we call as society. Emotions like adore, compassion, benevolence, fidelity, tribute, reverence and charity collectively imparts durability to this gigantic building. Male and female constitute the very base of this building. Both of them are equally responsible for apt functioning of a society. But to our bad luck, a female has not been enjoying her equal status of importance and respect since ages together. Story does not stop over the infliction of un reparable loses to female body and soul by male community but it extends to the most shame full level and that is, the infliction of pain and problems to a innocent female by the relations like mother-in-law and sister-in-laws. Here the point to ponder is that, even in spite of sharing same body and soul, the above mention women go up to the level of burning, killing or indulging in conspiracy against a woman who happens to be the daughter- in - law of the family.
This story commences with the arrival of newly wedded bride in in-laws house. At one hand where innocent bride is nervous about new home , new people, and also excited about the upcoming happy and prosperous married life with her husband and in-laws, on the other hand, as a matter of fact her mother in-law and sister-in-laws indulge in conspiracy, for making her dreamy world as a bed of thorns. Infliction of pain to naïve starts with verbal attack extends up to beating than final killing, burning or divorce to the innocent. The first main reason behind this, is the unending dowry lust. Demand for dowry comes out from mother-in-law’s side. As per the written records, India has by far highest number of dowry deaths. According to National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), in 2012 nearly 8233 dowry deaths were reported across the country, this mean that a bride is burned in every 90 minute in our country. And to your surprise, in almost every case of dowry death, husband’s family act as perpetrators. All mother-in-laws of our so called civil society are dominated with a cheap mentality of considering a newly wedded bride as a servant rather than as a new important member of their family. On the very first day, she expects all the house hold work to be done by newly wedded. The sapno ka mahal which a girl makes from her adolescence to live in, after marriage soon proved to be a Mirage of a Desert. Irony is that all other members of the family also start competing with her in house hold work. Why our so called society considers that all the manual works of a family, is the responsibility of a daughter-in-law only? A girl who may not know how to prepare a cup of tea very soon is overburdened by all the kitchen works. Isn’t this an exploitation of female by a female?
All those fortunate girls, who by chance or by the grace of God escape from getting burnt by the murderous hands of her in-laws, enter into the next level of exploitation. This is the time when bride gives birth to her offspring. Every thing goes smoothly if, the new born would be son but problem commences when she gives birth to a female baby. The first objection rises from mother-in-law side. She being a female does not feel comfy with the entry of a girl in her family. The situation become more grave if, second and third newly born, appears to be female child. It is always mother-in-law who conspires for second marriage of her son in such situations. She also blames innocent bride for not giving them the Chirag of their family. It is very hard for me to digest that we women are unable to understand the emotions and feelings of another woman. A mother-in-law often ally forgets in such situations that she is also having daughters who can also be subjected to such exploitations some else where but she keeps on subjecting her daughter-in-law with verbal, physical as well as psychological attacks. This atmosphere fills an innocent’s heart with hate and revenge. As we all know that a man gives to nature what he or she receives from it. Similar is the case here, when that exploited daughter-in-law, after a long pain full journey of exploitation, reaches at a stage of her life when she is the owner and the person like mother-in-law and sister-in-laws are dependents on her, at this time she delivers back all that hate, pain and sting to them, because they have pained them at the time when she needed love, kindness, care and companion ship.
This is the picture of every house. Every family is subjected to such type of proxy wars. I do not know why the relations between a girl and her in-laws are always full of hate and revenge? God gives us life once. But we people, in spite of living it happily, destroys it by petty quarrels. Irony to our Indian society is that in-laws expect service from a person whom they pained most. They expect love from a person whom they hate most. They expect benevolence from a person to whom they were too rude. They expect care from a person whom they abandoned most. Here I am very apologetic to say that we are living in worst type of societies.
In the end I want to say that when will abhorrence among hearts end? When will newly weeded is welcomed whole heartedly? When will old parents are cared under love not compulsion. As per physic law to every action there is equal and opposite reaction in the similar way if one gives adore, deference, admiration and significance to other he or she will also get same in return.
