Traffic resumes on Kashmir highway, Mughal road still shut | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 28: Traffic was on Saturday resumed on the 270-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining suspended on Friday for maintenance of the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. Meanwhile, the 86-km-long historic Mughal road, seen as alternative to Srinagar-Jammu highway, remained closed since Monday morning due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions, a traffic police official said. He said Srinagar-Jammu national highway was closed yesterday to allow National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to undertake necessary maintenance work besides road widening in the areas where only one vehicle can pass at present due to landslides. This morning traffic was allowed from Srinagar to Jammu, he said, adding that Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will have to cross Zig Qazigund in south Kashmir between 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after the deadline, he said. Security forces are also advised to follow the travel advisory and ply from Srinagar to Jammu only.
