Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 8: Since the day Manoj Sinha has taken over as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir the work culture in the government offices has improved and the anti-graft agencies have got more teeth.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Since the day Sinha has taken the charge he has made it clear to the officials that serving people is the government's priority and if anyone fails to do so will have to face the music."
The analyst said that the recent circular that empowers the government to retire any employee after completing 22-years of service or on attaining 48-years of age is aimed at making the government employees more accountable. "Now, all the employees are aware of the fact that they cannot take their jobs for granted as they are being watched and they can be thrown out. The very fear of losing the job has crept deep into the minds of the officials who till the recent past used to think that no one can touch them and they can do whatever they want," the analyst added.
He said that the proactive approach of LG Sinha is keeping all the officials on toes. "The Lieutenant Governor has been chairing the review meetings on the regular basis and the officers have to remain abreast with the developments as the LG's office can seek details from them at any point of time," the analyst added.
An observer said the anti-graft agencies that couldn't do much when the political regimes were in power have become very active as LG Sinha has given them a freehand. "These agencies have acted against such people who used to believe that they are above the law and are invincible. The Anti-Corruption Bureau has been acting swiftly. Cases are being registered on daily basis. Many corrupt employees of different departments have been caught red handed while taking a bribe. Big fishes that used to enjoy impunity too have fallen in the net of various anti-graft agencies."
He said that these are big developments that were unheard when politicians used to rule Jammu and Kashmir. "Most of these agencies were unable to act against the influential people as they had no teeth. Sinha's has made it amply clear that corruption won't be tolerated and whosoever is found involved in the corrupt practices will be dealt with as per law of the land," the observer added.
