Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 13: Amid the DDC polls going on in full swing in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress party has meticulously omitted out its veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad from the poll posters, revealing how relations between him and the party are turning sultrier with each passing day.
On the poll posters, one could at ease find the pictures of Sonia Gandhi, Rajni Patel, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Dr Manmohan Singh, JKPCC chief G.A Mir and the candidates contesting the polls. However, what is missing for the very first time is the picture of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. Why Azad's face is not on the posters is enough proof of the fact that his own party no longer considers him as a Congress man.
Earlier within the Congress party there were speculations rife that Azad may have been disgruntled due to his juniors calling the shots within the party in Jammu and Kashmir and his opinion not being taken into consideration by anyone there.
Azad, in an interview to the news agency on November 23 said that the Congress party's 'structure' has collapsed and needs to be rebuilt by having elected leaders from the block to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) level and enforce accountability in the system. He added that a five-star culture had seeped into the party and candidates first checked into a luxury hotel after getting a party ticket to contest an election. "Our party's structure has collapsed. We need to rebuild our structure and then if any leader is elected in that structure, it will work. But to say that just by changing the leader we will win Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh etc. is wrong. That will happen once we change the system. Until we change our way of functioning at every level, things won't change," he said.
Azad who has also served as the chief ministers for more than two years from 2005 to 2008 in Jammu and Kashmir demanded restoration of statehood. He highlighted how JK in spite of being one of the largest states in India was downgraded to a union territory without any compunction. As per the reports, Azad was taking least interest in the functioning of the party and in October when land laws in Jammu and Kashmir were repealed and Congress raised hue and cry, Azad was the single leader who preferred to remain silent. While his party issued a formal statement against the new land laws declaring that the Congress party will fight for the core interests of Jammu and Kashmir, Azad spoke about the non- payment of wages to doctors. "In this period of COVID crisis, non-payment of salaries by North MCD to doctors who are frontline warriors is shameful & deplorable. North MCD & Delhi Govt should not indulge in politics on the issue & ensure that the doctors are paid their salary immediately. #HINDURAOHOSPITAL," tweeted Azad on October 28. The Congress leader has more than 96000 followers on twitter.
