UDHAMPUR, Dec 19: Though many voters in the last phase of ongoing District Development Council elections have rued lack of development in their respective villages, yet they have pinned hopes on the formation of the third-tier of the Panchayati Raj system for solution to all their problems.
An interaction with these people at polling station in Ramnagar-I and Ramnagar-II constituencies revealed many problems these rural people face in their day to day lives.
A voter from Uupper Katwalat said there is no road connectivity to his village and the people have to carry all the essentials and other things on horse or mule backs.
“There is also a high school and the students also suffer due to no road in the area,” he said.
Krishini Devi, a housewife, said that her village has no proper water supply and bad shape of road connectivity is also a major cause of concern for the locals.
Many other voters narrated their problems including unemployment and lack of transport facilities.
Meanwhile, some people of Ramnagar-I DDC constituency expressed resentment as their names were missing from voter lists.
A housewife said she had voted in Lok Sabha elections and last panchayat polls but this time her name was not in the voter list.
“Action should be taken against the officials involved in deleting their names from the voter list without informing them,” she maintained.
Punit, a young boy, while expressing his bitterness on not finding his name, said, “I had voted in parliamentary elections but this time my name is not in the voter list which is quite surprising.”
Like Punit there were several others, whose name was dropped due to the negligence of concerned authorities who were deputed to make verification of the voter list.
“No BLO or other official from the election authorities came for survey and made a check of names in the voter lists due to which we were denied of our constitutional right. Action should be initiated against the erring officials,” they maintained.
