New COVID-19 Strain
12/25/2020 11:21:47 PM
New COVID-19 strain emerging in United Kingdom has evoked concern in Jammu and Kashmir. Experts fear that the strain may also reach the Union Territory and it can lead to another wave of Coronavirus breaking out in J&K.
The second strain, according to the reports emanating from UK, is deadlier than the first one and it can lead to the COVID vaccines losing potency. Till date the Centre has been claiming that the new strain hasn’t reached India and all the steps are being taken to ensure that the international travelers entering the country are screened properly before being allowed to move out. The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir are once again gearing up to fight what could be the another wave of the pestilence. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued the guidelines to fight the new strain which may infiltrate into the country.
The administration in Jammu region needs to wake up before it’s too late. The helmsmen should learn from their past experiences rather than beating round the bush. When the first wave of COVID-19 wreaked havoc in Jammu region administration of the top hospitals were caught napping. Many people died due to lack of oxygen and ventilators not working. The oxygen plants failing to cater to the high end ventilators left the helmsmen red faced. There was drama all around.
The new COVID-19 strain has put the question mark over the efficacy of the vaccine. Experts fear that the new strain may turn the vaccine ineffective as the shield has been prepared to deal with the un-mutated virus which engulfed the world in the first stage. It is possible that the changed virus might evade the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccine. While it is anticipated that vaccine efficacy will not be significantly hampered by mutated virus. The new variant might escape the immune response made by the existing vaccines that have been developed against the original strain of the virus. The possibilities being brought to fore by the experts have sent the alarm bells ringing. No one is prepared to face the ordeal which they underwent during the first phase. Everyone has kept the fingers crossed and all of us are hoping that the vaccine works and the immunization plans fall in place. But if it doesn’t happen we should be ready to face the possible fallouts of the second wave. Remaining prepared and taking precautions is the only way out.
