Srinagar Mayor marketing masks?
1/4/2021 12:27:23 AM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 3: Mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Azim Mattu, has embarked on the mission to make everyone wear a mask in the summer capital.
From January 1 onwards the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is imposing fine on the people who are seen without masks in the city.
An observer while talking to Early Times said, “It appears that the SMC Mayor who has assumed the charge for the second time is on the mission to help the mask manufacturers.
There is no harm in asking people to follow the COVID-19 norms but the moot question is that why is he only focusing on masks.
Why is he not asking people to avoid gatherings? There are so many functions taking place in the city.”
He said that since the day Mayor has assumed the charge he has tried to project himself as the “boss.” “He (Mattu) had written a letter to the government to identify the deadwood within the SMC so that action could be taken against the non-performers.”
“After he wrote the letter the SMC employees had asked a simple question. How can a temporary man, whose tenure cannot last more than 2-years suggest that the permanent employees should be sacked,” the observer added.
An analyst said, “The Mayor should focus on the job that has been assigned to him and he should leave the administrative matters for the officials.”
He said, “There is no harm in the Mayor asking the Srinagar people to wear masks but along with that he should focus on other COVID norms also that are being openly violated in the Valley.”
The analyst said, “The Srinagar Mayor should learn from the mistakes of Farooq Abdullah his son Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and others, who also crossed the line. They used to talk big before becoming irrelevant. Politicians should do for what they have been elected rather than poking their nose everywhere.”
