IT surveys Baig Constructions base in Bhatindi
1/6/2021 11:11:31 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 6: The Income Tax sleuths on Wednesday conducted a survey in Baig Constructions house and office in Bhatindi area here on the allegations of not filing returns against the property running in worth crores.
Official sources in the IT Department here said that Baig Construction is accused of concealing income and the department has taken action on suspicion of not showing proper income in the income tax return filed by the company.
Pertinently, this is the first survey of the department in 20201.
Baig Construction has also worked in many government schemes in Jammu and Kashmir and was also allotted contracts for many major projects, they said and added, "The departmental teams raided in assistance with the police and CRPF at around half a dozen locations of the company."
"The special teams from the Department from Chandigarh initiated the surveys in collaboration with local authorities," they added and said that on Kunjwani-Narwal Bye-Pass Highway, a house is owned by the Baig Construction Company owner in Bhatindi and the company also has an office in the same area.
"The teams closed the house and the office did not allow anyone to enter during the survey," they added.
According to income tax sources, the income of the company runs in crores but for the last several years, it was not paying tax against the income earned, adding, "the company's partners reportedly have political patronage and were therefore evading tax for years."
An official added that despite repeated warnings from the Department, the company did not file the appropriate income tax.
"The Department is scrutinizing the documents related to the company's transactions to assess exact income for further action," they added.
