Madni, Akhtar, Mansoor left in oblivion as party chief ignores them | Mehbooba forgets her ‘3 musketeers’ | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 4: Once known as the most trusted lieutenants of the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, the three senior most party leaders Sartaj Madni, Naeem Akhtar and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain continue to remain in detention. Call it politics or vendetta, the trio stand forgotten by their own party in an outright manner. When PDP was in power, Sartaj Madni- Mehbooba Mufti’s uncle, Naeem Akhtar her spokesman and Peerzada Mansoor her former advisor were considered as Mehbooba’s “three musketeers” also known as the kingmakers within the PDP. All the cabinet decisions and decisions pertaining to the functioning of the party were approved by them first. They were also famous as the courtiers of the queen. However, at present when all these three leaders are under detention, their own party and its president Mehbooba Mufti seems to have forgotten them. The party handouts and Mehbooba Mufti’s twitter handle is infested with the arrest of its youth leader- Waheed Parra. Mehbooba’s most recent tweet in this regard reads as follows: "Waheed is being persecuted & tortured to admit the false allegations. Since an admission didn’t happen he is being kept under inhuman conditions. This investigation has been fraudulent & politically motivated from day one." "The norm dictating such deceitful investigations is ‘Show me the man & I’ll show you the crime’. Shameful & appalling that these actions discredit & bring disrepute to the institutions meant to uphold law & order". She tweeted earlier. However, since the arrest of Sartaj Madni, Naeem Akhtar and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, there have been few customary statements condemning the action. Since then, not even a single word about these souls has been uttered. This has given rise to the speculations that these leaders, once known for their proximity to power, have been pushed into oblivion by the party. On the contrary, National Conference last month issued a detailed statement, highlighting the continuous detention of these PDP leaders. “The unwarranted intimidation and prolonged incarceration of political leaders and workers in Jammu and Kashmir reflects the atmosphere of fear and repression giving a ditch to the claims of government on bringing normalcy to Kashmir,” the party’s MPs, Muhammad Akbar Lone and Hassnain Masoodi said. On December 21, last year, Akhtar, Madni and Mansoor were arrested and put under detention. The development came ahead of the District Development Council (DDC) elections results. A PDP functionary on the condition of anonymity told Early Times that leadership’s silence on the detention of these leaders is petrifying and worrisome in more ways than one. According to him, party cadres are questioning this partial approach being adopted by the PDP president when it comes to safeguarding party’s overall interest and keeping the flock together. “The half of the party has already left and joined other parties. Tell me what is left now here?,” the functionary asked. |
