Jammu, February 8: After writing the much publicized letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the month of August 2020, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad has realized that high-command is not going to re-elect him in the Upper House of the Parliament. “Perhaps this is my last speech in the Rajya Sabha on any bill so I will not use any harsh word”, Azad said while speaking on the J&K Re-organization (Amendment) Bill. “I am confident that in my absence the government will bring a Bill in the next session of the Parliament to grant statehood of J&K”, Azad, whose term as Rajya Sabha member, is expiring on February 15. Due to infighting in the party, Azad has realized that party high command is not going to re-elected him to the Rajya Sabha. Secondly Azad was in the forefront of those leaders who had written a letter Retiring on Feb 15, Congress stalwart realized that high-command is not going to re-nominate him in the Upper House after writing hard-hitting letters to expose mess in the party. o the Congress president. Azad demanded statehood for J&K but in a mature manner without using any harsh language. He said that without democratic elected government, development has been halted, there is unprecedented increase in unemployment and industries have been closed. “I want to ask Home Minister Amit Shah if the present cadre was working well then what was the need to merge it ? You had promised that the statehood will be restored….But bringing this bill creates suspicion that the Union Government wants to keep J&K permanently a Union Territory.”, he said and strongly demanded statehood for J&K. Azad said it was perhaps his last speech in the House and he didn’t want to use harsh language but contrary to the government’s tall promises behind converting J&K into UT, development had been stalled, industry couldn’t enter and unemployment was on the rise. |
